It's just a surprise.
A [ It takes him a long time to finish typing this. ] pleasant surprise

[Now it's his turn to take a long time responding.
If anyone would understand what's gotten his back up, it might be Jeff Calhoun. Wonders never cease.]
JJ isn't here. I don't take kindly to being separated from my child.

autocorrect
[ It keeps making your name lowercase!! ]
I know
my daughter's not here either
no subject
How long have they been keeping you been here?
Is there anyone else from our world?
no subject
I'm sorry you're separated too
they're better off at home btw
it's safer
[ DON'T ASK HIM WHY THAT'S LIKE THE MOST CERTAIN HE'S EVER SOUNDED ABOUT ANYTHING.
As to the questions: ]
A couple weeks and not that i know of
no subject
How are you finding it, personally?
no subject
it's totally fine here
Actually it's really fascinating!! I mean i'd rather be home, but while i'm HERE there's a lot to take in
You might even like some of it
I mean, maybe.
I don't know what you like
What do you like?
no subject
And I like it on my terms.
So, no. I don't like this.
no subject
oh ok
That makes sense

I see you're still teaching.

[ And you couldn't do what he does, because IT INVOLVES HAVING A SOUL, YOU HANDSOME ICE QUEEN. ]
what job did they set you up with anyway?
no subject
I have yet to accept the contract.

Yes, I'm picky about what jobs I take, because I don't want to harm other people or betray my own code of ethics. I may not like it here, or agree with how they do things, but their citizens are entitled to the same care and treatment as anyone else.

On the other: WHY IS MR. WALTZ TELLING HIM THIS? Is it to lecture him? Or to just confide his feelings because he's stuck in a new place and Jeff's the only familiar person?
It all depends on his tone, and he can't read that as easily through texts. God, he misses the days when people just called each other.
(Of course, nothing's stopping Jeff from just shooting him some voice messages. Nothing but good, old fashioned phone anxiety.)
Without knowing Waltz's tone, it's hard to know how he should respond. What tone he should use in kind. ]
ok then
For what it's worth, I think you're doing the right thing here.
I guess that's the nice thing about teaching Gifted kids who've got nowhere else to go:
there's really not a lot of moral ambiguity you've got to consider before taking the job
[ It's uh. A SINCERE ATTEMPT AT FRIENDLY CONVERSATION, even though Cam seems to take joy in making him feel small.
...because Jeff's an obnoxiously empathetic person. ]
no subject
[A pause, because Jeff has been... understanding, in his own way. Cam's glad he isn't here alone. There are far worse men than Jeff Calhoun.]
For what it's worth, I don't believe you would do any such thing.
Regardless of your teaching ability, I know you have good intentions.
